Kings Park West Community Association

Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

March 10, 2010

In attendance: Joe Meyer, Linda Fournier, Linda Bufano, Larry Velte, Virginia Scattergood, Jim Messinger, Mary Hovland

Meeting called to order at 7:32pm.

Approval of February Meeting Minutes: The February minutes were reviewed and approved.  Larry motioned to approve them, Jim seconded.  Approved 7-0.

Treasurer’s Report: The board was informed that the current checking account balance is $13,124.87; there are 2 general fund CD’s in the amount of $5,162.50 each; 3 general fund CD’s in the amount of $5,308.04 each; and the reserve at $10,789.46 bringing the grand total to: $50,163.45.

Assessment Response:  21 homes have not paid the 2010 dues; out of this 10 have liens from prior years. Letters to be sent to owners with outstanding amounts were reviewed and changes were incorporated.

Old Business:  Tree removal- our removals are on the “list” for the company. They have been busy due to recent storms and will remove the trees as soon as they can.

Roberts Road dam: Project begins on Monday 3/15.

Kings West Swim Club:  Joe receives updates that he passes on to the Board. The Swim club is still working to raise money to turn the land into parkland so the county will accept it.

Tapestry Parking Area was approved- signs have not yet been posted.

Entrance sign at Sideburn: Joe was to look at this with someone who can give him an idea how much money is needed for repairs.

New business:  Common property donation: The Board was approached by Fairfax County Parks Department (Land Acquisition) regarding our common property. Joe was sent a map with KPWCA marked that is adjacent to county land.  This is all the property surrounding the pool plus a few extra pieces.  To transfer the land to the county an instrument signed by 2/3 of the membership would be needed. The Board needs to discuss this with the lawyers and put together a pro/con list on the advantages of donation property versus keeping it.  Questions would also need to be answered such as what would the county do with the property.

Fence request: The Architectural Review Committee approved a homeowner’s request to build a fence.

Communications from members: Upkeep complaint: On Collingham a member complained about shutters, a bad deck and a broken tree on a neighboring home.  There are no prohibitions on shutter color; the member was going to call county zoning about the condition of the deck.

Hearing no new business, Virginia motioned to adjourn, Jim seconded. Adjourned at 8:00pm.
